LENTEN PROGRAM CONTINUES: Sun. 4/2 & Sun. 4/9 - 5:00PM Covered Dish Supper, 6:00PM Praise & Program (with children & youth program).

THE SUNDAY SCHOOL LENTEN PROJECT is off to a great start. If you would like to purchase an animal, or a share of an animal from Heifer International, visit the Sunday School table in Fellowship Hall after church or see Jennifer Lee.

HEIFER CHALLENGE: The High School Class has accepted the "Heifer Challenge" and will be purchasing chicks. We will collect recyclable bottles and cans to meet our goal. Bottles and cans can be brought to church now through April 23rd. Together we can do it.

CALLING ALL CROPWALKERS & SUPPORTERS: Our annual Cropwalk, the community-wide hunger response of Church World Service takes place Sun. 4/30 at Marjorie Post Park. Pick up your Sponsor Sheets from Peggy Tomko during Coffee Hour in Fellowship Hall.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN'S NEWS:

  • Health & School Kits will be assembled again this year by UMW. You may participate by donating completed kits or a cash donation (all checks made payable to "United Methodist Women"). A collection box will be in the South Transcept through Easter Sunday.
  • UMW will be holding their General Meeting Tues., April 11th, 7:00pm in Fellowship Hall. Program: YES Community Counseling Center, located in Massapequa. Speaker: Mark Wenzel. He will discuss all the programs available to residents in our area. All women and teens are invited. Paisley Circle will be our hosts.
  • UMW Mission/Membership Table - stop by and support our mission work Sun. April 9th at Coffee Hour. Baked goods for Easter will be available! All UMW members are asked to bring baked goods for the table.
  • Save the Date: Sat. April 29, 2006, 12:00-2:00pm "Second Annual Lovely Ladies Luncheon". Invite a friend, neighbor, relative, or co-worker who has brought joy into your life to share a meal, fun, and fellowship with a room full of "loved ladies." Details to follow.

CONGRATULATIONS to Peggy Tomko who has been chosen as the "2006 Retiree of the Year" by the New York State Teacher's Union. She will be honored in May in Rochester, New York before 2,500 delegates.

NEW-TO-YOU-THRIFT SHOP needs volunteers for Fridays 1:00-3:30pm, Saturdays 10:00am-1:00pm and 1:00-3:30pm, especially Sat. 4/8. Please contact the Church Office.. All you need to do is commit to one Friday or Saturday per month. We really need your help to keep the shop running 4 days a week.

THE HUGH "SKIP" NEWMAN SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE is currently accepting applications for the 2006 Skip Newman Scholarship. The scholarship(s) will be awarded on Christian Education Sunday to students who are entering or continuing in a school of higher education. Applications are available in the Church Office and must be submitted by May 14th. Anyone wishing to make a donation to the scholarship fund, may do so by submitting a check to the church and designating it for the Newman Scholarship Fund.

A JOURNEY WITH CHRIST - WALK TO EMMAUS is a 3-day experience held at Montfort Retreat Center in Bay Shore. It is designed to strengthen and renew our faith, and to experience the love and grace of God on a deeper level. There is a poster in Fellowship Hall and there are brochures in the back of the sanctuary about the "Walk to Emmaus". Please pray about it and see if God is calling you to participate. KATRINA INITIATIVE: All churches in the New York Annual Conference will observe Palm Sunday, 4/9 as "Katrina Initiative Sunday." A special offering will be taken to help United Methodist churches, pastors and staff recover from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina. Checks can be made out to the NYAC. Please note on your contribution, Katrina Church Recovery Appeal #818-001.
